TEDxPhilly 2010: Right Here, Right Now

The first-ever TEDxPhilly conference was held on November 18, 2010 at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. This daylong event investigated the theme of Right Here, Right Now through multiple lenses and in textured ways. Hosted by Philadelphia’s own Chris Bartlett, the TEDx platform provided a space for Philadelphia-connected speakers and audience members to address some of the most pressing issues of the day and examine how those issues shape and are shaped by our sense of ‘here’ and ‘now’.

Speakers included: Cristin O’Keefe Aptowicz, Jay Coen Gilbert, Bill Covaleski, Nic Esposito, Bilie Faircloth, Tanya Hamilton, Simon Hauger, Chris Lehmann, Evan Malone, Robert J. Moore, Iyad Obeid, Stephen Powers, Ursula Rucker, Michael Solomonov, Zoe Strauss and Stanford Thompson.

TEDxPhillyWomen 2010 at Moore College of Art & Design

TEDxPhillyWomen

In December 2010, the first TEDWomen partnered with The Paley Center for Media to host a two day conference in Washington DC. It was also streamed as a live broadcast in Philadelphia at Moore College of Art & Design in conjunction with TEDxPhilly.

TEDWomen was host to more than 20 speakers and performers during the two-day event. Some of the speakers that participated were Madeleine Albright, Johanna Blakley, Eve Ensler, Arianna Huffington, Madame Callista Mutharika, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Turner, Jody Williams and surprise guest speaker Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton.

All participants of TEDWomen were challenged with the questions: Who are the women leading change? What ideas are they championing? And how will they shape the future? TEDWomen will also reveal women and men in concert with one another, orchestrating different but complementary approaches to ideas worth spreading.
